National Elementary
Honor Society
The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) was established in 2008 and recognizes fourth and fifth grade elementary students for outstanding academic achievement and responsibility. Students participate in school and community service to help develop leadership skills. Students selected for NEHS are inducted during the Spring semester each school year. Sutherland Elementary is proud to sponsor a chapter of the NEHS and is dedicated to acknowledging academic achievement in our elementary students.

Run Club
Sutherland’s Run Clun is sponsored by Kids On The Move; an active-lifestyle and youth fitness program run by the nonprofit organization Sports Backers in the greater Richmond, VA region. Our school-based program is open to students in grades three through five. Each year they participate in 2 major races in the tri-city area. The club helps to foster a love for running, teamwork and collaboration.

Pretty Purposed
Pretty Purposed is a no-profit organization based in Petersburg, VA, dedicated to empowering young women and girls ages 9-18. Sutherland’s school based chapter is for 5th grade students. The program provides mentorship, social-emotional learning, and enrichment activities through school and community-based "circles".
Their mission is to cultivate "spaces of joy" where girls can safely be themselves, learn, and grow while developing communication, conflict resolution, and self-esteem skills.
